About Iteration
Iteration is a real-time GPU remix of an iterative function visualizer originally created for Android by my UC Santa Cruz colleague Adam M. Smith. Each frame seeds thousands of points across $[-1, 1]^2$ and evaluates 16 nested trigonometric recurrences on the GPU:
x' = sin(A · x) + sin(B · y)
y' = cos(C · x) + sin(D · y)Each pass $i \in [1, 16]$ is additively blended with a radial point falloff and a continuous spectral color curve $RGB(t) = (t, \; 2t(1-t), \; 1-t)$ where $t = i / 16$. This modernized edition upgrades the original WebGL 1 pipeline to a native WebGPU (WGSL) compute and instanced renderer with automatic WebGL 2 fallback, unified Pointer Events (supporting 1-finger and 2-finger multi-touch steering), and hardware-adaptive 30–120fps scaling.
